Bald eagles winter viewing areas: Wabasha

Bald Eagle Wabasha and the surrounding riverfront areas hold the best viewing spots for wintering bald eagles. Though you can see eagles easily with the naked eye, the experience is better with binoculars. On your way there, keep an eye out for high eagle activity between Camp Lacupolis and Read's Landing.

Some good lookouts are:

1. Three pullouts between Camp Lacupolis and Read's Landing

2. Read's Landing

3. Along Lawrence Blvd. in Wabasha. You can see bald eagles November through March as transient birds mix with wintering ones near Wabasha.

Volunteers in Wabasha staff a viewing platform from 1 to 3 p.m. Sundays from November through March 29 to answer questions about eagles or to help you focus the two viewing scopes attached to the deck. Special arrangements can also be made for groups interested in a midweek guided session on the viewing platform. For information, call the Wabasha Chamber of Commerce: (651) 565-4158. There is no charge for eagle watching here.
