Clean Water Legacy Program

Mission: To meet current needs while ensuring a future in which Minnesota's waterways and watersheds remain an abundant source of clean water, provide enjoyable recreation, and support healthy aquatic ecosystems.

Research

The DNR is using Clean Water Legacy funding to support three research projects that aim to improve our assessment tools and to reduce pollutant loading to lakes, streams and wetlands. This research includes:

  • Supporting the evaluation of new technologies to reduce the amount of road salt used in winter;
  • Collaborating with Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and University of Minnesota to evaluate the accuracy of the methods currently used to assess biological health and diversity in streams, and to begin development of a method to assess biological health and diversity in large lakes.
