Where to go: 10/15/2012 will be the final Report for the fall. The Hiking Club trail is a nice way to see prairie and wooded areas of the park. The Overlook, the resting bench, and off site 20e in the campground are the best views.
What you'll see: With the hot dry summer, fall color will be fast and furious, with many of the plant species being a month ahead of normal dormant stage. Some species to look for while hiking are Swamp Milkweed, Butterfly-weed, Purple Coneflower, Common Sunflower, Blazing Star, Golden Rod Bottlebrush, Big/ little Blue stem, Canada Rye and Indian Grass.
Also of interest: This is a great park to visit for an afternoon walk or a picnic!!
Last updated: October 15, 2012Can’t decide between a one-day or year-round park permit? The DNR has a special offer that can help. Start by purchasing a one-day permit for $5 and visit as many state parks as possible. After visiting the state parks, trade in the one-day permit by the end of that day and get $5 off the purchase of a year-round permit. Year-round permits, which cost $25, provide unlimited access to all 75 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas for a full year from the month of purchase.
