Where to go: Take a hike on Beaver or Fawn trail to find the bits of color bursting through the green canopy. The cool weather makes for an enjoyable hike on our 11 miles of hiking trails.
What you'll see: The Sumac, Prickly Ash and Virginia Creeper are adding a beautiful red to the woods. The trees of the big woods are beginning to change from their summer green to a variety of muted fall colors. The Maples are showing some yellow, orange and red while the White Ash are turning a muted maroon. Spots of red and brown are beginning to show on the oaks throughout the park. The trees are also showing a bit of bronze that pops next to the leaves that have yet to turn.

Start by purchasing a one-day permit for $5 and visit as many state parks as possible. After visiting the state parks, trade in the one-day permit by the end of that day and get $5 off the purchase of a year-round permit. Year-round permits, which cost $25, provide unlimited access to all 76 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas for a full year from the month of purchase.
