Where to go: With nary a mosquito in sight, this week is the perfect time for a hike down Two Rivers Trail. Experience the changing seasons along both the Kettle and St. Croix rivers.
What you'll see: This week, the ironwood trees are turning a beautiful coral color. Dogwoods and sumac bushes are brilliant reds. There is nothing quite like the sunlight filtering through the multicolored leaves on an autumn day, so stretch your legs and explore!
Also of interest: Keep an eye out for animal activity in the forest. Migratory raptors and passerines use the park as an overnight rest stop while bears, deer and squirrels stock up on acorns, building their winter fat stores. Look for their tracks as you venture through the park.
Last updated: October 2, 2013Can’t decide between a one-day or year-round park permit? The DNR has a special offer that can help. Start by purchasing a one-day permit for $5 and visit as many state parks as possible. After visiting the state parks, trade in the one-day permit by the end of that day and get $5 off the purchase of a year-round permit. Year-round permits, which cost $25, provide unlimited access to all 76 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas for a full year from the month of purchase.
