Where to go: The colors in this area have stayed vibrant. Even with all the wind, the leaves are still on the trees. They are best viewed from the trestle and open pit area by the visitor center and while hiking the hiking club trail. The road to Stuntz Bay has some beautiful reds and yellows. Highway 169/1 also has some beautiful colors.
What you'll see: Maples are providing deep reds and the birch are showing off their yellows. It is a great contrast to the green from the conifers.
Also of interest: Join us on October 12th (Astronomy Day) for an evening night sky program. See the park web page for more information.
Last updated: October 2, 2013Can’t decide between a one-day or year-round park permit? The DNR has a special offer that can help. Start by purchasing a one-day permit for $5 and visit as many state parks as possible. After visiting the state parks, trade in the one-day permit by the end of that day and get $5 off the purchase of a year-round permit. Year-round permits, which cost $25, provide unlimited access to all 76 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas for a full year from the month of purchase.
