Where to go: Drive down to Lake Alice to catch most of the color change.
What you'll see: The color changes within the park are occurring in a few pockets of area; overall change is closer to the 30% range. Maples are showing in the lower parts of the park nearest the riverway, however aspens have already started to drop their leaves. The Valley area is still showing a lot of green punctuated by areas of full color change. Sumacs, wild grape, Virginia Creeper, and woodbine are showing.
Also of interest: Join the naturalist for a phenology hike Saturday morning. Learn about nature's changes in both plant and animal life as mother nature prepares for winter. Please see the park online event calender for more details and for a full selection of programming.
Last updated: October 2, 2013Can’t decide between a one-day or year-round park permit? The DNR has a special offer that can help. Start by purchasing a one-day permit for $5 and visit as many state parks as possible. After visiting the state parks, trade in the one-day permit by the end of that day and get $5 off the purchase of a year-round permit. Year-round permits, which cost $25, provide unlimited access to all 76 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas for a full year from the month of purchase.
