Where to go: The Prairie Overlook Trail is the place to view beautiful prairie grasses and flowers. As one of the highest points in the park, the landscape becomes a mosaic of color as the grasses and leaves begin to turn! Come and check it out!

What you'll see: Golden Rods are providing a yellow splash of color throughout the landscapes. The prairie grasses, with their golden tones, wave gently in the breeze. Look for Big and Little Prairie Bluestem. Cream and purple Bottled Gentian, and Blazing Star are dotting the park. Smooth and Staghorn Sumac provide stunning red berries, and their leaves are are one of the first to start turning red.

Also of interest: After a day of leaf-watching, join us on Saturday, September 6th, at 8 p.m. for a Starry, Starry, Night. There will be a short program and then we will head outside to view night sky objects through telescopes!

Special Offer for Park Permits

Canít decide between a one-day or year-round park permit? The DNR has a special offer that can help. Start by purchasing a one-day permit for $5 and visit as many state parks as possible. After visiting the state parks, trade in the one-day permit by the end of that day and get $5 off the purchase of a year-round permit. Year-round permits, which cost $25, provide unlimited access to all 76 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas for a full year from the month of purchase.
