Course: S-131: Advanced Firefighter Training / S-133: Look Up, Look Down, Look Around

Course Description:

S-131: Firefighter Type 1, S-131, is an eight-hour course designed to meet the training needs of the Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1)and Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5). This course is designed to be interactive in nature. It contains several tactical decision games designed to facilitate learning the objectives and class discussion. Topics include: fireline reference materials, communications, and tactical decision making.

Objectives

  • Demonstrate the ability to use fireline reference tools to facilitate the communication and decision making processes.
  • Describe how to incorporate and maintain open lines of communication with appropriate personnel
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply the standard operating procedures found in the Incident Response Pocket Guide.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply information found in the Fireline Handbook.

S-133: This course examines the wildland fire environment and the indicators firefighters should observe on the fire line in order to anticipate fire behavior.

Objective

  • List and describe indicators that firefighters should observe on the fire line related to fire behavior.

Target Audience:

S-131: Firefighter Type 1
S-133: Fireline supervisors, from firefighter type 1 (FFT1) through division supervisor (DIVS).

Course Prerequisites:

S-131: Qualified as a firefighter type 2 (FFT2).
S-133: None
