The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has prepared a Three-Year Extension of the Agassiz Lowlands Subsection Forest Resource Management Plan (AL SFRMP). This Extension establishes the stand exam lists to be used by the Department to carry out vegetative management from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2013.

The Three-Year Extension is a continuation of the Agassiz Lowlands 7-year SFRMP which will end in 2010. The original 7-year plan together with the Three-Year Extension identify long-term goals and strategies to implement vegetation management on approximately 785,000 acres of state forest timberlands (lands capable of producing timber) administered by the DNR Divisions of Forestry and Section of Wildlife. This ecological subsection covers all or parts of five northern Minnesota counties: Beltrami, Clearwater, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods and Roseau.

The AL SFRMP Three-Year Extension consists of two products:

This Three-Year Extension provides an inventory of stands for site visit and possible vegetative treatments for fiscal years 2011, 2012 and 2013. This stand exam list will serve until the next full 10 year revision to the AL SFRMP is prepared which will be implemented starting in 2014. The Extension Stand Exam List identifies 1,249 forest stands totaling 32,425 acres. Stands on the List have received a preliminary prescription (i.e., harvest, thin, site visit to determine management or re-inventory).
