On February 25, 2008 DNR Commissioner Mark Holsten signed the final approval for the DNR Agassiz Lowlands Subsection Forest Resource Management Plan (SFRMP) (1 MB pdf). This officially completes a process that began in 2000.  Following review of input from two previous public review opportunities, the DNR began implementation of the plan’s strategic direction in FY2003 (i.e., July 1, 2003 – June 30, 2004) via annual interim stand examination plans.

The Agassiz Lowlands SFRMP was developed by an interdisciplinary DNR team (i.e., including staff from DNR Divisions of Forestry, Fish and Wildlife, and Ecological Resources), made available for public review and comment, and approved by division and department leadership. The completed plan directs vegetation management on 1.7 million acres of forest lands administered by the DNR Divisions of Forestry, and Fish and Wildlife (about 45% of the subsection’s total forestland).

The final plan includes:

  • Long-term strategic goals, strategies, and desired future forest conditions (as revised based on previous public review)

  • Summaries of the 7-year stand selection process, the results of which have been used to begin implementing the long-term strategic direction (i.e., stands selected to be field reviewed, and potentially treated, based on criteria consistent with the long-term strategic goals).

  • The complete 7-year list of stands (1.6 MB pdf)selected for field review and potential treatment.

  • List of stands from the 7-year list that contain white pine.

  • DNR responses to comments received during previous public review.
