Suburban garden

Line drawing of a suburban garden with native plants. Selected species for suburban sites

This is an example of a landscape plan for Minnesota native plant species you could plant on a suburban lot. The design incorporates groupings of native plants naturally found in prairie, oak savanna, oak woodland, and wetland edge or wet meadow habitats. Select the plants which fit your particular site. Turf grass is limited to functional, easier to mow paths and patches, while the rest of the site is naturalized with well-adapted natives which are beautiful, invite birds and butterflies, and help protect adjacent wetlands.
