Description: This zone lies entirely within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness administered by the U.S. Forest Service. Travel is non-motorized and by watercraft or foot only. Hunters need to be aware of permitting requirements for wilderness travel in the BWCAW. This zone is 93 square miles in size and stretches 30 miles along the Canadian border with numerous lakes, streams and drainages. There are entry points to the zone at West Bearskin Lake, Clearwater Lake, East Bearskin Lake and McFarland Lake. Land ownership: Superior National Forest. Most hunters hunt the waterways, but upland hunting is also rewarding.
Topography: The terrain varies from flat to rolling to steep.
Physical fitness level: High. Hunters need to be aware of their fitness level because moose hunting can be physically demanding and require heavy lifting and endurance. This unit demands the physical ability to pack 300-600 lbs. of meat and antler out of the wilderness over rugged portages.
ATV Regulations: ATVs are prohibited.
