Profile
on....... TIM BRASTRUP
Area Fisheries
Supervisor, Brainerd; Division of Fish and Wildlife
Educational
programs and internships....
Tim and other
members of the Brainerd Fisheries office give about 20 to 30 presentations
a year to elementary schools, high schools, colleges, sporting clubs,
and civic organizations.
Tim also
writes newspaper articles to inform the community about a special project
that is underway, or provide other factual information. Tim and some of the staff
members can also be heard on the local radio station, where they may be
giving their predictions about fishing conditions.
Sometimes, a
special project will require extra help, and the Fisheries office will
employ a college intern to work on the project. There have been a number
of college interns in their office. Just recently, an intern went on to
be hired as a Fisheries Technician at Little Falls. Tim finds it rewarding
to be able to help an intern or employee to develop a career in natural
resources.
Outside of his
work with the DNR, Tim acts as an adjunct instructor at Central Lakes College
in Brainerd. Tim has taught there for the past 11 years. He teaches Fisheries
Management and other aquatic biology courses, including wetland ecology,
watershed management, limnology (study of fresh water) and water quality
analysis. |
