TIM BRASTRUP
Area Fisheries
Supervisor, Brainerd; Division of Fish and Wildlife
A favorite
story....
Since 1984,
the Brainerd Area Fisheries office has given away an annual award for,
well, the biggest --- and most humorous --- screw-up, and of course shared
with others in a tasteful manner.
One of the awards
went to an employee who was, very creatively, trying to haul sod in a habitat
improvement project. The sod happened to be on a steep hillside, which
made the task very difficult. So, the employee borrowed a private boat
from another employee. The boat was filled with sod and, with an attached
rope, was lowered down the hill. Unfortunately, the rope broke, the boat
sailed down the slope and slammed directly into a tree, leaving a large
dent in the co-worker's boat. Just another award-winning day in habitat
improvement.
On another occasion,
a manager borrowed a GPS (global positioning satellite), into which he
entered the coordinates of his favorite fishing spot in Canada. The next
employees to use the GPS were instructed to set nets on the Minnesota side
of Lake of the Woods. However, the manager had forgotten to remove the
coordinates for his favorite fishing spot in Canada, and the employees
found themselves setting nets in Canada! |
