Private Data:
Due to the change to Minnesota Statute, section 84.0874, effective March 1, 2010, an individual's Electronic Licensing System (ELS) data, such as name, addresses, driver's license number, and date of birth, collected for purposes of obtaining a noncomercial game and fish license, cross-country ski pass, horse trail pass, or snowmobile trail sticker; registering a recreational motor vehicle; or any other electronic licensing transaction are considered private.

Private data will be released accordingly, and to persons authorized by state or federal law, pursuant to a court order, or by written consent of the individual.

Social Security Number:
In 2003, the State of Minnesota passed legislation that requires the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to collect social security number (SSN) as part of an application for a non-commercial hunting or fishing license. This federal requirement is to assist states in enforcement of child support programs.
To purchase a hunting or fishing license, regardless of age, the individual must either have SSN on DNR customer file or provide SSN as part of the license application. If individual have a SSN but refuse to provide it, he/she will be denied a hunting or fishing license.
