Bear Hunt Lottery - Applications available late March. Deadline for lottery first Friday in May.

If you have been chosen to receive a 2014 quota bear license, you will receive a postcard as your notice in the mail by mid-June 2014.

You may purchase your license starting July 1, 2014 at any ELS license agent, by telephone at 1-888-665-4236, or online.

Check whether you were drawn for a 2014 quota bear license by entering either your:

1.

9-digit MDNR #:

OR

2.

Driver's License #:

(You must use capital letters in your license number.)

Bear lottery winners must purchase their license by August 1, 2014. Unsold licenses will then become available for purchase by anyone starting August 6, 2014 at 12:00PM. Check the DNR web site (www.dnr.state.mn.us) on August 5th for license availability and more information.

NO-QUOTA BEAR LICENSES

No-quota bear licenses also will be available starting July 1, 2014, at any ELS license agent. No-quota bear licenses are only valid in the no-quota bear zone. When you purchase a license you will be asked which kill block / deer permit area you intend to hunt. This is only for evaluating the number of bear hunters in the no-quota zone. It does not allow someone to hunt in one of the 11 Bear Management Units without a valid license for one of those areas.

Preference levels: Each year that you apply for a bear license and don't get drawn for one, you earn a preference point until you are drawn. If you are a first-year applicant or a previous-year winner, you are a preference level 1. The higher your preference level, the better chance of getting a license. For example, a preference level 2 has a better chance of getting a license than a preference level 1. Group preference works the same way. Some of our lottery drawings you can apply for as a group, such as this one; your group's preference is the same as the preference of the member with the lowest preference level.
