Purpose of this Extension
This extension was created to support the display of commonly used recreation symbols in ArcView. It is supplied with a TrueType font of 118 characters/fonts/icons that are used on Minnesota's Public Recreation Information Maps, State Park Maps and other map products. these Symbols are added as a tool in either the View or Layout Documents. The user can place the symbols by selecting the point or by creating a leader line. The user has the options of changing the icon color and size and can control the icon background color and opaqueness.
Functionality Highlights
At this time this extension contains the following functionality:
| Easy Icon Picker |
This extension uses displays a form with the icons grouped by function. There are five thematic icon categories as shown on the following graphic of the Recreation Symbol Form.
To place a particular symbol, find the tool of interest, select it and then place the symbol on the view or layout as a point or by dragging a leader line. |
| Flexibility |
Since the symbols are stored as a TrueType Font you can also use them to create markers for ArcView using the Symbol Palette, Create Markers option in the Font Panel as shown below. This allows the user to create a set of markers that are the recreation symbols and then classify a point theme and symbolize it using the recreation markers.

Known Problems
This application does not function on the UNIX version of ArcView (I don't think that ArcView is handling my TrueType font - probably my fault but I'm not an expert when it comes to font creation).
