Purpose of this Extension

The ArcView Stream Digitizing Extension was created to support on-screen (heads-up) digitizing in Stream/Trace mode. As you move the cursor around the screen a line is drawn without having to click the mouse wherever you want a vertice to be placed.

To start data capture just press the left mouse button once. To end data capture double-click the mouse and the line will stop or the polygon will be closed.

All feature snapping is done using existing ArcView rules and regulations.

The menu can be "Rolled-Up" or "Rolled-Down" using the arrow button in the upper right hand corner of the dialog.

Functionality Highlights

At this time this extension contains the following functionality:

Smooth Lines

Specify how much to smooth a line. Uses an Iterative Bezier Curve algorithm to smooth out a line.

Distance Tolerance Allows the user to specify how close they want the vertices to be when collecting lines.
Weed Lines Perform on-the-fly vertice weeding at the distance tolerance
AutoPan Automatically pan the View when the cursor comes within 5% of the edge of the window. Only works when actually digitizing.
Split a line or Polygon feature using a stream mode digitized line.
Create a new polygon adjacent to an existing polygon (append).

Suspend Digitizing

The user can temporarily suspend Stream-Mode capture by pressing the ALT key. This is useful for long, straight line segments or when you just need to re-situate the mouse or to stretch your arm. Releasing the ALT key will cause stream capture to resume.
