Minnesota Project Learning Tree

What is a Project Learning Tree (PLT) Workshop?
PLT-trained facilitators conduct PLT workshops for educators throughout Minnesota. A PLT workshop (usually about six hours long) can be arranged at a variety of locations during weekends, weeknights, work hours, or after school. Educators receive written curriculum materials as well as practical, hands-on training during the workshop. A minimal fee is required of each participant.
PLT partners with other organizations and provides additional educational materials at workshops such as U.S. Forest Service posters, wildlife packets, and more. PLT workshops may include training in Project WET (water education) and Project WILD (wildlife education).
How to Attend a PLT Workshop in MInnesota
There are two ways to attend a PLT workshop:
- Watch for PLT (and WET and WILD) workshops on the Calendar.
- Contact the PLT Coordinator to set up a workshop for your audience at a site and time you prefer.
Who Can Attend a PLT Workshop?
Any formal or non-formal educator may attend a PLT workshop. Participants include formal and non-formal, pre- and in-service classroom educators, natural resource professionals, naturalists, scout leaders, and others interested in natural resources and environmental education. To be included on a mailing list to receive notices of upcoming workshops, contact the PLT Coordinator.
How To Get PLT Materials and Curriculum
The only way to get PLT materials is to attend a PLT workshop. See the Calendar for a list of upcoming workshops OR contact the PLT coordinator by calling 651-259-5263 or 888-646-6367 to arrange for a workshop in your area. For a description of PLT materials, visit the PLT Curriculum page.
How to Get Trained as a Volunteer PLT Facilitator
PLT facilitators enhance local educational networks by bringing and expanding environmental education across Minnesota. People who have attended a full six-hour PLT educator workshop are eligible to attend a full-day PLT facilitator training workshop. The facilitator training offers participants a chance to hone and practice important workshop facilitation skills and become familiar with other related environmental education programs in Minnesota. Trained facilitators are expected to facilitate or co-facilitate a PLT workshop at a site of their choice within three years of being trained. For more information, contact the PLT Coordinator at 651-259-5263 or 888-646-6367.
