Description:

Pine Bend Bluffs SNA is one of the least disturbed sites along the lower Mississippi River in the Twin Cities. Mesic oak forests occupy most of the site from the river banks to the tops of the 200 foot bluffs. Several small dry prairies occur along the south and east facing slopes and provide habitat for rare species such as Kitten-tails and James Polanisia. The rugged terrain found at the site also harbors native white pine and black ash seepage swamps. The ground layer is well represented by wildflowers such as hepatica, blood-root, wild ginger, and other species typical of mesic oak forests. The site offers stunning views of the lower Mississippi River.
