I Can Climb!

If you've always wanted to try climbing but never knew how to start—or how to start safely—you'll definitely want to come to an I Can Climb! program this summer. Qualified professionals will teach you the basic skills you need to get to the top. They'll help you with your equipment and get you climbing in no time. Depending on group sizes, participants will have the opportunity to ascend one or two routes. |

Preregistration is required for all I Can Climb! - The Next Step! programs, and is highly recommended (but not required) for all I Can Climb! and I Can Climb! - North Shore programs. (Some drop-in spots will be held for these programs, but to be sure you'll be able to climb, you should sign up in advance so we'll know you are coming!)

Participants will have the option to register for one of the following time slots: 8-9 a.m., 9:30-10:30 a.m., 11 a.m.–noon, 1-2 p.m., or 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Age Requirements and Waivers
Children under 5 may not climb. Climbers must be at least ten years old for I Can Climb!—North Shore, and at least 14 years old for I Can Climb!—The Next Step. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All participants are required to sign a waiver of liability prior to climbing. Walk-in spots are limited, so pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

* There is no charge for I Can Climb! or I Can Climb!—On the North Shore programs, but a vehicle permit is required to enter all Minnesota state parks ($5/day or $25/year).

I Can Climb!
These programs are designed especially for first-time climbers, so no experience is necessary.
These programs are intended to provide participants with a FREE rock climbing experience. Programs last around one hour. Depending on group sizes, participants will have the opportunity to ascend one or two routes.

I Can Climb! On the North Shore
If you're looking for a little more adrenaline, try one of these free programs where participants are lowered from the top of the cliff to just above Lake Superior and then climb back up! The North Shore programs are available only to participants ages 10 and older.

I Can Climb! The Next Step
For those who've tried one of our other two programs and want to take their climbing skills to the next level, this introductory lesson focuses on knot tying, belaying, rope management skills, the use of technical equipment and climbing commands. These programs are available only to participants ages 14 and older. Cost is $35 per participant; pre-registration is required.

** Programs at the Temperance River State Park are longer due to extended hiking to the climbing site. Participants should be prepared to hike 1.5 miles to and from Carlton Peak.
