The Nicollet County Historical Society staffs the Visitor Center, located ½ mile from the park office. Visitor Center is staffed Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. Contact the Historic Site at (507) 426-7888 for more information. A Minnesota State Park Vehicle Permit is required. | |
Interpretive Exhibit |

Dakota forces attacked the fort twice-on August 20 and August 22 of 1862. A diorama of the two battles is included with other exhibits that focus on the history of the Fort. Exhibit Admission is $3 for Adults 18-64 years of age, $2 for Seniors 65 years of age or older and for Children 6-17 years of age, Free for children under 5 years of age. Adult and school group tours available any day by special appointment. Call (507)426-7888 for price information or to make an appointment. (Different fees may apply for special events.) Historic site grounds are open for year-round self-guided tours. Visitor Center/History Center is open Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. The site includes one fort building which has been restored to its original appearance, as well as the remains of the foundations of other fort buildings. Self-guiding signs identify the foundations and interpret life at the fort and the 1862 U.S.-Dakota Conflict. Contact the Historic Site at (507) 426-7888 for more information.
