At Park Entrance

From Memorial Weekend through Labor Day, the best time to contact someone in the park is 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m, Friday through Saturday. At other times, call Scenic State Park (218) 743-3362.

Visitor Center

Clubhouse

The Clubhouse has been converted to a museum which includes two floors of exhibits, a gift shop, and park office.

Two floors of museum displays are located in the Clubhouse. Other exhibits can be seen along tour route.

Naturalist Programs

At the Mine

Guided interpretive tours begin the Friday of Memorial Day and end the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Group tours are available spring, summer and fall by contacting the park in advance.

Historic Site

Mine and Facilities

The open-pit mine and mining facilities are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park is also designated as a site along the Heritage Tour route of northeast Minnesota.

Tours

Fossil Hunter Tour and Historic Mine Tour

Historic Mine Tour - Board a bus to trace the route miners took to get to work.

Fossil Hunter Tour - Hunt for fossils from the Cretaceous era - best of all you can keep what you find.

Hours - Tours run 1.5 hours, Friday and Saturday.
Rates - $10/adult, $6/child 5-12, free/child under 5.

Park Office

Nature Store in the park includes gift items, park specific items, mining and geology-related books and items.

Observation Tower

Located outside the Clubhouse. Excellent for viewing the mine pits.
