Water: Campground spigots are off for the season.
Drinking Water: Water is available year-around at the park office.
Bathroom Facilities: Modern restroom facilities are closed for the season. They will reopen on May 11, 2012. Vault toilets in the park are available year-round.
Showers: The shower building has closed for the season. It will reopen on May 11, 2012.
Dump Station: Water is off at the dump station. It will reopen in early May.
Campgrounds: The campgrounds are open year-around but are not plowed in the winter. Reservations are not taken or needed October 23, 2011 through May 10, 2012. Self-registration is available when the office is closed.
Electric Sites: The park has 18 electric sites. The sites are not plowed in the winter. The electricity remains on year-around, however, if campers wish to walk in.
Special Notes for RV Campers: The campground has narrow roads with sharp turns; may not be suitable for some large RVs.
Reservations: Highly recommended during the summer. All sites are first-come, first-served during late fall, winter and spring.
Contact Notes: The office will be open 1 pm to 3 pm on Saturdays and Sundays in the winter, plus other days and times as staff is available. Mornings are usually the best time to reach somone by phone.
Trail Notes: McCarthy Beach has 18 miles of hiking trails, 17 miles of mountain bike trails and 12 miles of horse trails. The park has 9 miles of cross-country trails and 12 miles of groomed snowmobile trails available in the winter. The park snowmobile trails connect to the Taconite State Trail and the Tim Corey trail. Non-heated trail shelters are available. Snowshoeing is permitted anywhere in the park except on groomed ski trails.
Season Rentals: The park rents canoes, kayaks, and row boats for $10/4 hrs or $20/day. A paddle boat is available to rent for $5 per hour with a $10 minimum. Rental season is Memorial Day to Labor Day. The picnic shelter in the park can be rented for $35/day. Call the park to reserve. No winter rentals at this park.
