Water: Campground water is off. Water is available at the park office.
Drinking Water: Water is available year-around at the park office.
Bathroom Facilities: The campground bathroom building is closed. Vault toilets in the park are available year-round.
Showers: The shower building is closed. It anticipated to reopen on May 9th, 2014.
Dump Station: The water is off at the dump station. It typically reopens in early May.
Campgrounds: Winter camping is no longer available at McCarthy Beach. The campgrounds will reopen sometime after April 1st, depending on when the snow melts.
Electric Sites: The park has 21 electric sites. These typically book a year in advance for the peak summer season.
Special Notes for RV Campers: The campground has narrow roads with sharp turns; may not be suitable for some large RVs.
Reservations: Highly recommended during the summer. All sites are first-come, first-served during late fall and spring.
Contact Notes: There are no set office hours during the winter, but the office will be open as staff is available. Mornings are the best time to reach someone by phone. Self-registration is available when the office is closed.
Trail Notes: McCarthy Beach has 18 miles of hiking trails, 17 miles of mountain bike trails and 12 miles of horse trails. The park has 9 miles of cross-country trails and 12 miles of groomed snowmobile trails available in the winter. The park snowmobile trails connect to the Taconite State Trail and the Tim Corey trail. Non-heated trail shelters are available. Snowshoeing is permitted anywhere in the park except on groomed ski trails.
Season Rentals: The park rents canoes, kayaks, and row boats for $10/4 hrs or $20/day. A paddle boat is available to rent for $5 per hour with a $10 minimum. Two Stand Up Paddleboards are available to rent for $10 per hour. Rental season is Memorial Day to Labor Day. The picnic shelter in the park can be rented for $35/day. Call the park to reserve. No winter rentals at this park.
