National Winter Trails Day

Fort Snelling State Park

Come on out and join us to celebrate national Winter Trails Day. It's the perfect opportunity for anyone new to snow sports to try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, geocaching and other outdoor winter activities. There will be plenty to do, so make friends with winter and bring your whole family out to play!

Fort Snelling State Park

Representatives from local outdoor organizations will be joining Minnesota State Parks and Trails staff at Picnic Shelter A at Fort Snelling State Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing tips, tricks and instructions for how to make the most of winter. Equipment for all activities will be provided, or you can bring your own.

Activities will include:

  • Snowshoeing
  • Ice sculpting
  • Naturalist-led hikes
  • Free hot cocoa around a bonfire
  • Winter games
  • Cold weather camping tips
  • Learn to build a quinzee
  • Cross-country skiing
  • Skijoring
  • Ice fishing

The activities are free, but you will need a vehicle permit to enter the park.
