National Winter Trails Day

Come on out and join us to celebrate the sixteenth annual National Winter Trails Day. It's the perfect opportunity for anyone new to snow sports to try snowshoeing and other outdoor winter activities for free. Bring your whole family out to play and discover how much fun winter can be!

Fort Snelling State Park

REI logoRepresentatives from REI and other local outdoor organizations will be joining Minnesota State Parks and Trails staff at Fort Snelling State Park from noon - 4PM, providing tips, tricks and instructions for how to make the most out of your winter fun. The activities are free, but you will need a vehicle permit to enter the park.

Activities will include:

  • Snowshoe demos (including a sweepstakes to win a pair)
  • Geocaching in winter
  • Naturalist-led hikes
  • Ice fishing
  • How to keep warm in winter
  • Building ice luminaries
  • Cold weather camping
  • Skijoring and dogsledding information (come meet the dogs!)
  • Snowman building
