The Day Un-Dims

before it lightens,

like something

emerging. A fish

swims upwards

out of darkness

before it begins

to glimmer; so

day is drawn

from depth, as if

a morning were

just an idea

that nobody's

quite yet hit upon.

And then, and

only then, does it

dawn.
