• Wear your life jacket (PFD)—water temps. average 40º-50º
• Watch the weather—it can change rapidly
• Carry a VHF marine radio, compass, chart & GPS—know how to use them
• Carry adequate fuel
• Maintain your engine
• Let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return
• In case of a storm—head into the waves at a 45º angle
• If you capsize or swamp—stay with the boat
