Water table information from several sources were combined to produce a water-table digital elevation model (DEM) with ANUDEM software (Hutchinson, 1996). This file only includes data from Quaternary valley fill in the Zumbro and Mississippi River Valleys. The inputs for the water-table DEM included County Well Index (CWI) water-level data from Quaternary water table (QWTA) and Quaternary buried unconfined wells (QBUA) (CWI was updated by the Minnesota Geological Survey for Part A); shallow borehole measurements by the Minnesota Geological Survey (also conducted for Part A); and elevation values of surface-water bodies, wetlands listed in the national Wetland Inventory (NWI), perennial streams, and seeps. In addition, water-table elevations were estimated from the soil classifications (Harms, 1965) where partially oxidized soils were observed indicating seasonal high water-table conditions. (A digitized version of this soil survey, dated 1/26/2003, was provided by Wabasha County.) The ANUDEM algorithm uses a locally adaptive criterion that minimizes the profile curvature. By using this technique, ANUDEM retains realistic hydrologic drainage.
