Lineage
  • A 1:200,000 scale template showing County Well Index points and their unique numbers was made in ARCPLOT and plotted on mylar.

  •
  • Mike Trojan drew the three ground-water shed boundaries on the template based primarily on chemical criteria. Increased concentrations of dissolved solids and increased proportions of sodium and chloride are indicative of ground-water movement westward through confined conditions. He found these conditions in the northern and southern parts of the study area, but not the central part. Based on this criteria, Mike Trojan drew two lines, one separating the northern from the central area, and the other separating the southern from the central area. These three areas represent ground-water sheds, areas within which all of the ground-water discharges to the same location. The North ground-water shed discharges to the Wild Rice River. The Central ground-water shed discharges to the Buffalo and Otter Tail Rivers. The South ground-water shed discharges to the Rabbit River.

  •
  • These lines were digitized in ARCEDIT, up to the limit of the study area boundary, resulting in three polygons, one representing each ground-water shed.
