Section 2 Data Quality Information
Attribute Accuracy
Logical Consistency Data are topologically correct using ARC/INFO 7.0.3
Completeness Complete
Horizontal Positional Accuracy N.A.
Vertical Positional Accuracy N.A.
Lineage A variety of data was used to compile an Excel file called addlpts.xls:

a) water table elevations from wells completed in surficial aquifers

b) surface water elevations (lakes and rivers)

c) calculated water table elevations from well logs

Points developed using a) and b) include both measured and other data. The sources of other data for a) are historic measurements from CWI and USGS reports. The source of other data for b) is elevation computed from topographic maps. Calculated water table elevations - c) - were used west of the Beach Ridges. The water table elevation was assumed to occur at the interface of the oxidized (yellow or red geologic materials) and reduced (blue) zones in CWI well logs. The data were carefully screened and data points which seemed inconsistent or were difficult to interpret were deleted. The reason for this measurement was that there were no surface water or surficial water table control points within the lake plain, making this the most suitable alternative for calculating water table elevations. The data was compiled by Mike Trojan.

The Excel file was converted to an ARC/INFO point coverage using the following method:

  • Two comma separated value files were created, one with only the following three fields: the unique number and x and y coordinates, the other with all fields
  • In ARC, the 'generate' command converted the first comma separated value file into a simple point coverage.
  • In INFO, a data file was created from the second comma separated value file, the one containing all fields..
  • The ARC command, 'joinitem' connected the point coverage with the INFO data file, using the unique number as the relate id.
Source Scale Denominator 200,000
