Mississippi River: Little Falls to St. Cloud

• Below Little Falls the Mississippi River begins to lose the wilderness character of its upper reaches. Four dams must be portaged in this segment. Stretches of scenic riverscape are interspersed with houses, farms and urban areas. Paddlers should also watch for dams and know which side to portage or lock through. Do not cross the river directly above dams.
