Blazing star (Liatris spp.)

This tall perennial provides a brilliant rosy purple spike in August. Heads are arranged in a dense spike with small individual flowers. The stems may grow to 18" tall. Leaves are green with a white mid-vein, 2-6" in length. Habitat is usually prairies, open grassy meadows, hillsides and jackpine forests.
