Common native perennial, 1-3'. Flowers in May-June. Red sepals surround 5 yellow petals, and each petal has a red spur. Hummingbirds enjoy the nectar found in the tubular spurs. The leaves are divided into 3-lobed leaflets. Cultivated varieties are common in home gardens. Genus name is Latin for ?eagle,? the spurs being like an eagle?s talon.
