Common false Solomon's seal (Smilacina racemosa)
Perennial herb 16-30" tall with ascending stem and a plume of small, greenish white flowers. Flowers in May. Six petals, typical of the Lily Family to which it belongs. Fruit is a red, purple-dotted berry, which may be conspicuous in the fall. Leaves are oblong, alternate, 1-3" wide and 3-6" long. Fine hairs underneath. Found in upland deciduous forests.
