Narrow-leaved puccoon (Lithospermum incisum)
Low-growing perennial plant of roadsides, prairies, and open woods, especially sandy soil. Stems topped with a cluster of orange or yellow flowers, each with 5 petals united in a tube toward the base. Blooms May-June. Leaves are alternate and softly hairy. Roots may be used to make a red dye.
