Jack-in-the-pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum)

Native perennial of rich, moist woods, 1-2'. Two leaves, divided into 3 leaflets each. The spadix ?jack? is canopied by the striped green/purple spathe ?pulpit?. Tiny flowers on the spadix turn to bright red fruits by fall, and the leaves wither away. The fruit, eaten by birds and animals, is toxic to humans. Blooms May-June.
