Stemless lady's slipper (Cypripedium acaule)

Orchid that grows up to 17" in shade and on acidic, nutrient-poor soil such as sandy pine forests and wet coniferous swamps. The true stem of the plant is a short underground structure. Single flower with a pink or inflated pouch (the slipper); two basal elliptical leaves. Blooms May-July.
