Bushy, branched shrub to 3 feet tall with palmately compound leaves (5 to 7 narrow leaflets) and yellow, 5-petaled flowers about an inch across. Wet brush prairies, especially on calcareous soil. Used medicinally by American Indians. Blooms June-August.
