Silky aster (Aster sericeus)

Perennial to 2 feet tall with widely branching stems and alternate leaves covered with silvery hairs. Lower stem is leafless by late summer. Flower heads to 1 inch across with purple rays and yellow disk. Dry calcareous prairie. Blooms August.
