Spotted coralroot (Corallorhiza maculata)

Native perennial, lacking chlorophyll and parasitic on soil fungi. Stem is purple-brown and flowers spotted purple, with leaves reduced to small bracts along the stem. Northern Minnesota has three species of coral-root. Grows in all soils, in all forest types, to 1', usually in clusters.
