Tussock cottongrass (Eriophorum vaginatum var. spissum)

Perennial native sedge, to 3', growing in tussocks (raised clumps of new and old growth) in bogs and swamps, often with tamarack. Showy white fruit June-Aug. The ?cotton? is a tuft of bristles on the tiny fruits. Minnesota has at least 7 species of cotton-grass. Not related to the commercial cotton plant.
