Wild calla (Calla palustris)

Perennial plant of swamps and shallow, quiet water; 4-8" tall. Base of plant and part of stem usually underwater. Tiny flowers on a club-like spadix surrounded by a white, oval spathe. Flowers develop into a cluster of red berries. Leaves are shiny and heart-shaped. Plant contains needle-like crystals of calcium oxylate. Blooms in June.
