Wild licorice (Glycyrrhiza lepidota)

Plants to 3 feet tall. Pale yellow, pea-type flowers in dense clusters. Pinnately compound leaves with 11 to 19 leaflets. Blooms June-August. Fruits about 3/4 inch long, covered with hooked prickles, turning brown by late summer. Mesic and wet-mesic prairie. Related to the European commercial licorice plant.
