Rustic Retreat WMA

Nearest Town: Taopi
Area: 16 ac

Directions: 1 3/4 mile E of Taopi.

Description: This WMA is a prairie/forest/wetland complex with the upper Iowa River running through it. There is a small 2 acre planted prairie on the east side of the unit. With mesic oak forest and other saturated deciduous cover types.

There are some pheasant hunting opportunities, but be careful and know where one is shooting because of the proximity to the trail and to Hwy 56.

The unit is managed for pheasants. The Root River Bike Trail borders the unit on the south.

At this scale, these WMA boundaries are general, and do not accurately represent the actual legal boundaries. WMA users still need to verify public lands boundaries by observing boundary signs and contacting local DNR Wildlife offices.
