Guidance for Safely Opening Outdoor Recreation

The Stay Safe MN Executive Order 20-56 allows Minnesotans to enjoy many outdoor recreational activities, and provides for the safe reopening of various outdoor recreation facilities.

Below are outdoor recreation guidelines for recreation facilities and the public. These guidelines, which were jointly developed by Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), explain how the public can remain safe while engaging in outdoor recreation. They also address requirements for the safe operation of marinas, equipment rental, events, guides, and other authorized outdoor facilities and activities.

Also included below are guidance documents for campgrounds and charter and launch boats that wish to reopen under Phase II of Minnesota’s Stay Safe Plan. These guidelines identify the public health protection measures that these facilities and operations must address in their required COVID-19 Preparedness Plan in order to open.

These documents will be updated as needed.

For information about the safe reopening of various business and social settings not addressed  on this page—such as organized youth sports, gyms, entertainment—please go to the DEED guidance page.

More information also can be found on the Stay Safe MN page.
