In southern Minnesota and the Twin cities Metropolitan Area, the average last 32-degree temperatures of spring occur in late April, compared to mid-May in northern portions of the state. Similarly, the average first 32-degree readings of fall occur around October 10th in the south, and during the last week of September in the north. Thus, on average, northern Minnesota's freeze season tends to be 3-5 weeks longer than that of southern Minnesota.
