Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles

The DNR's two 2012 Chevrolet Volts, based at the St. Paul Central Office and the Grand Rapids Regional HQ, are plug-in hybrid vehicles that can travel 35 miles on a single electric charge. For example, a staff member can travel between the Central Office in St. Paul and Fort Snelling State Park with zero emissions. When powered by gas, the Volt gets 38 mpg at highway speed.

Besides its efficient gas engine, the Volt offers two sources of energy. It has a battery that provides gas-free driving for an estimated 35 miles, and an onboard gas generator which produces electricity that allows the vehicle to travel up to 375 additional miles on a tank of gas.
