Lineage | Potentiometric contours of four bedrock aquifers, the Upper Cedar Valley, Lower Cedar Valley, Spillville-Maquoketa, and Galena Group were created using a combination of historical CWI data and a smaller, more precise set of data from the chemistry network. The elevations in the chemistry network are accurate to within an inch, and the static water level measurements are similarly accurate. The contours were drawn by hand using static water level measurements for each of the four main aquifers. The contours for the Spillville-Maquoketa aquifer were less smooth than the other aquifers because the data and the type of aquifer suggests that ground water is flowing through conduits in the aquifer to the major surface water drainage. The Galena Group potentiometric contours are uncertain because of limited data. An Arc/Info coverage was created by hand digitizing the contours in Arcedit. A shapefile was created from this coverage using the arcshape command. The potentiometric contours of the Upper Cedar Valley, Lower Cedar Valley, and Spillville-Maquoketa aquifers are shown on Plate 7, Bedrock Hydrogeology. The potentiometric contours of the Galena Group aquifer are shown only in the Technical Appendix to Part B. |

Entity and Attribute Overview | |
Entity and Attribute Detailed Citation HTML Table (Not Available) | potsfcln.dbf | | | | ID | Unique ID | | ELEVATION | Elevation in feet above mean sea level of the potentiometric surface contour of an aquifer. Contour interval is 20 feet. | | COMMENTS | "dashed" refers to contour segments where line is uncertain due to inadequate data. "solid" refers to a segment that is reliable based on adequate data. | | AQUIFERS | Aquifer to which the potentiometric line pertains: "Dcvu" refers to the Upper Cedar Valley aquifer; "Dcvl" refers to the Lower Cedar Valley aquifer; "Dsom" refers to the Spillville - Maquoketa aquifer; "Ogal" refers to the Galena Group aquifer. |
