Lineage | The primary data used to construct the elevation DEM grid files were derived from well logs with verified locations in the County Well Index (CWI) database managed by the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Geological Survey. Using a custom ArcGIS 9 extension (DNR Waters Stick Diagrams) 75 west-east geologic cross sections were created and then interpreted by Todd Petersen. Todd Petersen then digitized the interpreted stratigraphic contacts as line files in ArcView 3.3. Using another custom DNR extension (DNR Waters get XYZ points) the vertices of the shapefile lines were converted to point shapefiles that also have elevation above MSL as an attribute. To create the aquifer elevation file the points that define the top of each individual aquifer layer were selected. The selected set of points were converted to a separate shapefile and interpolated by Todd Petersen using a spline tension method with default parameters in Arc GIS 9.2 into a grid file. The elevation grid files were clipped using the boundary outline file for each individual aquifer. Greg Massaro converted the final raster into a polygon shapefile. |
