Lineage | This file represents the thickness between the top of each aquifer and the base of the nearest overlying recharge surface. A description of recharge surfaces is found in Figure 3, Plate 10. Sensitivity estimates were created by calculating the vertical distance between the nearest overlying recharge surface and the top of the aquifer. The following grid calculations were used. The actual sensitivity calculations use the deepest recharge surface. If the deepest recharge surface is below the top of the aquifer, then the distance from the recharge surface to the top of the aquifer is set equal to zero during the calculation. This effectively uses the recharge surface immediately above each aquifer: C1 AQUIFER con(([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of C1 aquifer]) < 0, 0, ([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of C1 aquifer])) H1 AQUIFER con(([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of H1 aquifer]) < 0, 0, ([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of H1 aquifer])) If the H1 aquifer sand was more than 100 feet from land surface and the original sensitivity calculation was <= 20 (VH or H), then the sensitivity was set equal to 21, ?M?. The following grid calculation was used: con(([USGS Topo DEM] - [Top of H1 aquifer]) > 100, con([Original H1 sensitivity] <= 20, 21, [Original H1 sensitivity]), [Original H1 sensitivity]) B3 AQUIFER con(([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of B3 aquifer]) < 0, 0, ([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of B3 aquifer])) B2 AQUIFER con(([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of B2 aquifer]) < 0, 0, ([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of B2 aquifer])) B1 AQUIFER con(([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of B1 aquifer]) < 0, 0, ([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of B1 aquifer])) X3 AQUIFER con(([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of X3 aquifer]) < 0, 0, ([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of X3 aquifer])) If the X3 aquifer sand was more than 100 feet from land surface and the original sensitivity calculation was <= 20 (VH or H), the sensitivity was set equal to 21. The following grid calculation was used: con(([USGS Topo DEM] - [Top of X3 aquifer]) > 100, con([Original X3 sensitivity] <= 20, 21, [Original X3 sensitivity]), [Original X3 sensitivity]) X2 AQUIFER con(([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of X2 aquifer]) < 0, 0, ([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of X2 aquifer])) If the X2 aquifer sand was more than 100 feet from land surface and the original sensitivity calculation was <= 20 (VH or H), the sensitivity was set equal to 21. The following grid calculation was used: con(([USGS Topo DEM] - [Top of X2 aquifer]) > 100, con([Original X2 sensitivity] <= 20, 21, [Original X2 sensitivity]), [Original X2 sensitivity]) X1 AQUIFER con(([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of X1 aquifer]) < 0, 0, ([Deepest Recharge Surface] - [Top of X1 aquifer])) If the X1 aquifer sand was more than 100 feet from land surface and the original sensitivity calculation was <= 20 (VH or H), the sensitivity was set equal to 21. The following grid calculation was used: con(([USGS Topo DEM] - [Top of X1 aquifer]) > 100, con([Original X1 sensitivity] <= 20, 21, [Original X1 sensitivity]), [Original X1 sensitivity]) The sensitivity rating model, based on the thickness of the protective layer between the aquifer and the nearest overlying recharge surface, is described in Figure 3 of Plate 10. Sensitivity ratings are applied as follows: Protective layer thickness | Sensitivity Rating | 0 to 10 feet 10 to 20 feet 20 to 30 feet 30 to 40 feet Greater than 40 feet | Very High High Moderate Low Very Low | The final raster was converted to a polygon shapefile. Sensitivity interpretation was based on overlapping estimated time of travel ranges as follows: Map color | Sensitivity Rating | Time of travel range | Red Orange Yellow Light Green Dark Green | Very High High Moderate Low Very Low | Hours to months Weeks to years Years to decades Decades to a century A century or more | |
